Education

I earned both my undergraduate degree in child studies with a minor in psychology and my graduate degree in legal studies from Carleton University. I have additionally received certification from the Canadian Mental Health Association in Applied Suicide Intervention Support Training, First Aid CPR Level C from the Canadian Red Cross, and Non-violent Crisis Intervention from the Crisis Prevention Institute.

Experience

I'm a personal tutor in Ottawa, Canada, who works with students in grades K-12 in a wide variety of subject areas. I have experience working with people who have learning disabilities, mental illness, and various other barriers to success. I believe that with the right support systems in place, anyone can succeed. In addition to working with students as a tutor, I've also served as a teaching assistant at Carleton University where I assisted professors with the organization and implementation of an undergraduate level university course within the department of law and legal studies, as well as within the department of social work. As a Youth Facilitator and Mentor for Youth Net and as a presenter for the Hopewell Eating Disorder Support Centre, I created interactive programming and presentations for schools and community groups as well as training new staff members. As a research assistant for the Carlton University Addictions Research Team, I assisted psychology graduate students with meta-analysis in the field of correctional services and supported students in their research efforts within the fields of addictions, forensic psychology, and correctional services.

Hobbies

I have a background in theatre from High School and previous to that. I currently have a Bachelor's Degree from Carleton University in Child Studies and Psychology and starting in the fall I will be a graduate student in Legal Studies. I am hoping to do an MSW afterwards in order to pursue a career as a youth advocate in social work and legal services. I work with teens and young adults (12-20) who have experience with the mental health care system, and am extremely passionate about supporting others in growth. I am efficient, detail oriented, and positive. I operate from a judgement free perspective in all aspects of my life, and hope to bring that to this position as a tutor. I have experience working with people who have learning disabilities, mental illness, and various other barriers to success. I believe that with the right support systems in place, anyone can succeed.
