Sophie J.
Private tutor in Ottawa, Canada
Education
Bachelor in Education - French as a second language at University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Post-grad in Public Administration, HR Management.
Experience
Although I now work for the federal government in Ottawa, I have never left the teaching world. After 5 years teaching French in a high school in the Netherlands, I immigrated back to Canada. Upon my return in 2007, I started in the government teaching French to public servants. After finding a permanent position as a Training and Learning Specialist which kept me out of the class for a while I decided to reconnect with teaching 3 years ago. Since then, I have been tutoring teenagers in French immersion, new comers and government employees. I am very passionate about teaching and the success of my learners is always my priority. I teach French using a communicative approach. Grammar is used a supportive tool rather then being the ultimate goal.

Hobbies
I am a very active mother of two teenagers who keep me grounded. I love running, hiking, biking and have a special interest for good food and nutrition. I love travelling and my years lived abroad have turned out to be the most valuable tool I have. I am passionate and dedicated about helping others. That is why tutoring brings me the fulfilment I cannot always get in my work which is often administrative in nature.
