Experience- 5 years as a French, English and Mathematics tutor,
Oxford Learning Center (Ottawa, Montréal):
college, high school, and grade school students.
- 2 years as a Teaching Assistant (5 appointments),
McGill University (Montréal): Differential and Integral Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations.
- 1 year as a French Teacher for Katimavik, a National youth volunteer service program (Ottawa).
Personal aptitudes that make me a good tutor:
-Flexibility for trying various approaches to communicate knowledge to the student
-Autonomizing the student by adopting an approach centered on active learning on their part, rather than just my own talking and having the highly illusory hope that the student will magically learn through osmosis.
HobbiesMy favorite activities involve the outdoors: hiking, biking, walking, cycling, tennis, football, and soccer, in particular.

Derek is an AMAZING tutor. I had a horrible professor for university-level probability and statistics and was sitting around a 35% after the midterm because I barely understood any of the course content. I contacted Derek and he basically taught me the second half of the course from the ground-up over a few tutoring sessions. I got an 89% on the final and did much better than I was even hoping for overall. Derek takes the time to understand the content you're meant to know for your specific course and relay it to you in a way that makes sense. He's also just an all-around great guy and tries to make math fun for those who really dislike it. Hire him if you struggle with math!
THIS TUTOR ROCKS. Seriously he saved me THE DAY BEFORE my linear algebra exam which I got nearly 100% on (whereas my average test marks were 40%). Yes, he's that good. Highly recommended!
